As a Metal Fabricator, you will be responsible for cutting, shaping, and joining metal components to create finished products. You will use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and machines to cut, bend, and weld metals such as steel, aluminum, and brass. In addition to fabricating parts from scratch, you will also be responsible for repairing damaged metal components. A successful Metal Fabricator must be able to read blueprints and follow instructions carefully. They must also have good problem-solving skills and be able to work independently.

Metal Fabricator Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine the best methods of fabrication
  • Operate shears, brakes, bending machines, and other metalworking equipment to cut, bend, and shape metal according to specifications
  • Assemble and weld fabricated components into products using tack welding, spot welding, or mig welding techniques
  • Inspect completed products for conformance to specifications and defects
