The Material Planner is responsible for the coordination and expediting of materials according to production plans. They work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and resolve any issues that may cause delays. The Material Planner also maintains inventory levels within company guidelines and assists in the development of new inventory management strategies.

Material Planner Job Responsibilities

  • Review production schedules and anticipate material needs
  • Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely delivery of materials
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and stock locations
  • Monitor supply levels and work with suppliers to resolve shortages
  • Prepare reports on inventory levels, trends, and forecasts

Objectives

  • To ensure that all materials required for production are available when needed.
  • To develop and maintain an accurate material forecast to support the production plan.
  • To work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials in line with production requirements.
  • To monitor inventory levels and initiate replenishment orders as necessary to maintain stock levels within company guidelines.
  • To investigate and resolve any material shortages in a timely manner.
  • To liaise with other departments within the company (e.g. engineering, purchasing, quality control) to ensure smooth flow of information and efficient coordination of activities

Material Planner Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or supply chain management
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in materials planning or a related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
