A Fence Installer is responsible for installing fences and gates around homes and businesses. They must be able to measure the area to be fenced, select the appropriate fencing materials, and install the fence using hand tools or power tools. Fence Installers must be able to follow instructions and blueprints, as well as work independently with minimal supervision.

Fence Installer Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or other instructions to determine the required materials and installation methods.
  • Select the type of fence best suited for the application, such as wood, chain link, vinyl, or ornamental iron.
  • Obtain necessary permits from local authorities prior to beginning work.
  • Excavate post holes using an auger or other power equipment, and set posts in concrete footing according to blueprint specifications.
  • Assemble fencing sections by attaching rails to posts using brackets, screws, or nails.
  • Hang gates in designated openings using hinges and latches according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Finish fencing surfaces with paint or stain as directed by the customer
