CNC Machinist Job Description Template
The CNC Machinist will operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to fabricate metal parts. The machinist will interpret blueprints and instructions from engineers to create the necessary programs for the CNC machines. They will also set up, calibrate, and test the machines before production begins. During production, the machinist will monitor the progress of each job and make adjustments as needed. After production is complete, they will inspect the parts for quality assurance.
CNC Machinist Job Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and other specifications to determine machining operations, tools required, setup procedures, control settings, and tolerances
- Plan the sequence of operations and specify the setup requirements for each operation
- Select appropriate cutting tools for each operation and mount them in the proper holders on the machine tool spindles
- Set up CNC machines according to specifications using hand tools, calipers, micrometers, etc.
- Load programs into CNC machines that direct the machining operations following instructions from engineers or programmers
- Run test programs to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed codes prior to production runs
