A CDL Driver is responsible for driving a commercial vehicle and transporting cargo. They must have a valid CDL license and clean driving record. The driver will load and unload the truck as needed, and may be required to help with warehouse duties when not driving.

CDL Driver Job Responsibilities

  • Drive a commercial vehicle (a "CDL" or "commercial driver's license" is required to drive any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more)
  • Transport goods and materials from one location to another
  • Load and unload cargo from the truck
  • Perform pretrip and post-trip inspections of the truck and its cargo
  • Keep track of mileage, hours driven, and fuel consumption
  • Comply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations

CDL Driver Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • A CDL Driver typically needs a high school diploma or equivalent, although some jobs may require additional training or certification. They must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements for the type of vehicle they will be driving. CDL Drivers must also have a clean driving record and be able to pass a DOT physical and drug test.
