The Vascular Sonographer will provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The candidate must be able to maintain a high standard of medical ethics at all times and be self-motivated to increase their level of understanding and knowledge of the field as they evolve.

Vascular Sonographer Job Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the vascular system.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to produce images of the arteries and veins.
  • Identify anatomical structures and abnormal blood flow patterns.
  • Communicate findings to physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Follow infection control protocols to maintain a safe working environment

Objectives

  • To provide high quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • To work collaboratively with physicians to ensure optimal patient care.
  • To maintain a high level of professional competence through continued education and training.
  • To operate ultrasound equipment safely and effectively.
  • To perform all aspects of vascular sonography, including but not limited to: carotid duplex imaging, peripheral venous scanning, arterial scanning, and venous mapping.

Vascular Sonographer Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • In order to become a vascular sonographer, one must first complete an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program. After completing the program, one must then pass a national certification exam in order to become registered as a vascular sonographer. Some employers may also require certification in CPR and basic life support.
