A Tour Guide is responsible for providing an enjoyable and educational experience for visitors on tours of our facilities. They will be knowledgeable about the history and background of the organization, as well as current programs and initiatives. The Tour Guide will engage with visitors, answer questions, and ensure that everyone has a positive experience.

Tour Guide Job Responsibilities

  • Arrive at the meeting place on time to pick up the tour group.
  • Introduce yourself to the tour group and give a brief overview of the itinerary for the day.
  • Lead the tour group to all of the destinations on the itinerary, providing commentary and interesting facts along the way.
  • Make sure everyone in the group is accounted for at all times and help anyone who may be struggling to keep up with the pace of the tour.
  • Be available to answer any questions from members of the tour group throughout the day.
  • Bring the tour back to the original meeting place at agreed upon time, saying goodbye to each member of the group individually

Tour Guide Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • There is no one specific set of skills or qualifications that are needed to become a tour guide. However, most tour guides have at least a high school diploma, and many have completed some college coursework or have a degree in tourism, hospitality, or another related field. Additionally, many tour guides have received training through certification programs offered by organizations such as the National Association of Realtors or the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Finally, being able to speak multiple languages is often seen as an asset for tour guides since they may be giving tours to international visitors.
