The Professor is responsible for providing instruction and mentorship to students in a particular field of study. The Professor also conducts research and writes scholarly papers in their area of expertise. In addition, the Professor may be called upon to serve on committees or perform other administrative duties as needed.

Professor Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and teach courses in their field of expertise.
  • Develop course materials such as syllabi, lectures, and assignments.
  • Evaluate and grade student’s class work, assignments, and papers.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Meet with students during office hours to advise and assist them with academic issues.
  • Select and supervise teaching assistants for their classes.
  • Serve on departmental committees related to their field of expertise or on collegewide committees as needed or requested by the administration.
  • Engage in scholarly research in their field of expertise and publish findings in professional journals or present at conferences.
  • Stay current with developments in their field of expertise by reading professional journals or attending conferences.
