A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides basic care and domestic services to clients in their own homes. Duties include but are not limited to: light housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, errands, meal preparation, providing companionship and emotional support. The PCA may also be responsible for administering medication as directed by the client's physician. The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate and have a genuine desire to help others. They must be able to work independently and follow instructions well. Good communication and organizational skills are essential.
Personal Care Assistant Job Responsibilities
- Assist clients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and eating
- Help clients move around and stay active
- Provide transportation to doctor's appointments and other outings
- Perform light housekeeping tasks, such as laundry and cleaning up after meals
- Give medication to clients as prescribed by their doctors
- Keep track of client's medical appointments and immunizations
- Communicate with client's family members or other caretakers
