The PCA is responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The PCA will work to maintain a clean and safe environment, provide patients with basic needs such as bathing and grooming, and perform other duties as assigned.

Objectives

- To help clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and ambulation.
- To prepare meals for clients according to their individual dietary needs and preferences.
- To perform light housekeeping tasks for clients as needed, such as laundry, dusting, vacuuming and sweeping floors.
- To provide transportation for clients to medical appointments or other activities outside the home, as required.
- To observe and report changes in client’s condition or behaviour to a qualified health professional
PCA Job Skills & Qualifications Needed
- The skills and qualifications needed for the role of PCA include: excellent communication and interpersonal skills, basic math skills, good organizational skills, the ability to lift and move patients, and a high school diploma or equivalent.
