The Orderly Attendant is responsible for providing routine patient care and support services in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures. The incumbent ensures that all patients receive prompt, courteous, and professional service. He or she also provides a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Other duties include transporting patients to various locations within the hospital; assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers; stocking supplies; and performing general maintenance tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent; previous experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.

Orderly Attendant Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of the hospital ward.
  • Makes sure that the patients' beds are clean and tidy at all times.
  • Changes bed linen and arranges them in an orderly manner.
  • Empties bedpans and urinals, washes them, and disinfects them after each use.
  • Gives baths to patients who are unable to do so themselves.
  • Assists patients in moving around the ward or getting in and out of bed as needed.
  • Takes vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate as directed by the nurse in charge.
