The Night Auditor is responsible for preparing and distributing the daily reports, ensuring accuracy of guest account balances, reconciling bank deposits, and running nightly computerized audit. Additional responsibilities include resolving any discrepancies discovered during the audit process, preparing journal entries as needed, maintaining confidentiality of all hotel information including but not limited to proprietary and financial information. The Night Auditor may also be asked to perform some Front Desk Agent duties such as check-in/check-out when necessary.

Night Auditor Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for running the night audit and ensuring that all financial reports are accurate.
  • Reconcile all revenue and expense accounts to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Balance the books for the day and close out any open transactions.
  • Prepare detailed reports on guest activity, room revenues, and other important metrics.
  • Handle any guest issues or concerns that may arise during the night shift.
  • Work closely with front desk staff to ensure efficient operations overnight.

Objectives

  • To reconcile and balance the day's receipts with the sales entries in the hotel's accounting system.
  • To post charges to guest accounts, including room charges, food and beverage purchases, and other miscellaneous charges.
  • To prepare a summary of cash, check, and credit card transactions for the hotel's management.
  • To maintain accurate records of all guest account activity during your shift.
  • To investigate and resolve any discrepancies in the day's financial transactions.
  • To provide excellent customer service to guests who inquire about their account balances or make payments during your shift.

Night Auditor Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in customer service
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Basic math and accounting skills
  • Familiarity with computers and basic office equipment
