The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The LVN is responsible for observing and recording patients' symptoms, reactions and progress; administering prescribed medications and treatments; preparing equipment and supplies; and assisting with examinations and other medical procedures. The LVN also provides emotional support to patients and their families.

LVN Job Responsibilities

  • Providing direct patient care, including taking vital signs and administering medications
  • Assisting physicians and RNs with exams and procedures
  • Collecting patient samples for lab testing
  • Educating patients and families about their health condition and treatment plan
  • Serving as a liaison between patients and the rest of the healthcare team
