Childcare Assistant Job Description template
A Childcare Assistant works under the supervision of a key worker, and plans, prepares and delivers play activities that will encourage the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children. They carry out these tasks by assessing and responding to children’s individual needs, observing and reporting on their need, setting and achieving targets, communicating with parents, and supporting other childcare staff.
Childcare Assistant Responsibilities
- Assist parents with childcare activities, which may include bathing, dressing, personal care, meal prep, storytime, and other activities
- Develop positive relationships with children and their parents, and act as a positive role model for younger children
- Maintain clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate for age groups of the childcare center, and coordinate activities throughout the day
- Work cooperatively with other childcare staff
- Report promptly to designated supervision when children exhibit or exhibit signs of illness, or when childcare staff is unavailable to attend to children
- Answer telephones, coordinate schedules, perform administrative tasks, and perform other duties as assigned

- Report to supervisor/manager regarding accidents, injuries, and other issues
- Maintain a positive rapport with children and parents
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all individuals
- Maintain accurate and detailed daily logs
- Maintain, update, and order necessary supplies
- Generate reports, both electronically and on paper
- Perform administrative tasks (e.g., filing, copying, distributing mail, etc.)
Childcare Assistant Skills Needed
- Bachelor’s degree in childcare or related field
- Experience working with young children, including infants and toddlers
- Ability to work with children while managing a structured environment
- Knowledge of child nutrition, developmental milestones, and age appropriate activities
