The Cardiology Technician will provide support to the Cardiologist in performing diagnostic procedures and administering treatments. They will also assist with patient education and follow-up care. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a medical office or hospital setting, and be able to maintain a high level of professionalism.

Cardiology Technician Job Responsibilities

  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments
  • Prepare patients for procedures by taking medical histories and performing preliminary physical examinations
  • Take electrocardiograms (EKGs) and operate other diagnostic equipment
  • Assist physicians during procedures such as catheterizations, angioplasties, and cardiac stress tests
  • Provide patient education on conditions, treatments, and lifestyle changes to prevent further heart problems

Objectives

  • To provide diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients with cardiovascular disease.
  • To operate and maintain specialized equipment used in cardiology procedures.
  • To assist physicians in the performance of cardiac catheterization, angiography, and other invasive procedures.
  • To monitor patients' vital signs during procedures and report any changes to the physician immediately.
  • To prepare patients for procedures by cleaning and sterilizing their skin, inserting IVs, and providing sedation when necessary.
  • To educate patients and their families about cardiovascular disease, its treatment, and lifestyle changes that can help prevent or manage the condition.

Cardiology Technician Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required for this position, as well as onthe-job training. Cardiology technicians may also need to be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
