The Tow Truck Operator is responsible for the operation of a tow truck to transport vehicles. They are also responsible for hooking up vehicles and ensuring they are secure before transport. The operator must be able to communicate with dispatch and follow all instructions. They must also be familiar with the area in which they are working to ensure efficient transport.

Tow Truck Operator Job Responsibilities

  • Operate a tow truck to move disabled vehicles to a repair shop or storage lot
  • Inspect disabled vehicles to determine the best way to load them onto the tow truck
  • Attach chains, winches, and other equipment to disabled vehicles in order to prepare them for transport
  • Drive tow trucks slowly and carefully so as not to damage the disabled vehicle being towed
  • Keep track of all vehicles that are towed, and maintain records of where they are taken and when
