Telecommunications Technician Job Description Template

The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of voice, data, and video equipment and systems. This includes troubleshooting problems with telecommunications equipment and systems, as well as providing training to users on how to use the equipment. The Telecommunications Technician also develops and maintains documentation for all telecommunications systems.

Telecommunications Technician Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and other drawings to determine the location of underground facilities
  • Plan the installation or repair of telecommunications equipment and lines
  • Install, maintain, and repair telecommunications cable, including fiber optics
  • Splice and connect wires to terminals
  • Test electrical circuits for continuity using testing instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes
  • Adjust, align, replace, or repair electronic equipment or parts such as antennas, modems, multiplexers, power amplifiers, repeaters, satellites dishes , switches , transmitters , videoconferencing systems , and waveguides
  • Operate computer programs to input data , monitor system performance , calculate project costs or material needs , schedule work crews , dispatch workers to job sites
  • Inspect completed installations to ensure adherence to safety codes
