Stonemason Job Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints or drawings and calculate material requirements
  • Select the type of stone to be used, according to its color, grain, and texture
  • Mix mortar and use tools such as trowels, floats, chisels, hammers, and wedges to cut and shape the stone
  • Build walls, floors, patios, fireplaces, or other structures using stone
  • Repair existing stonework by replacing damaged stones or resetting loose stones
  • Install Anchors to secure stone in place
  • Cleaning up the job site once work is completed

Objectives

  • To cut and dress stone blocks in line with the specifications provided, ensuring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • To set out work areas accurately, using specialist measuring equipment where necessary.
  • To safely operate a variety of hand and power tools in order to shape the stone blocks as required.
  • To clean up work areas on a regular basis, disposing of waste materials safely and responsibly.
  • To liaise closely with other members of the construction team in order to ensure that deadlines are met and work is completed to a high standard.
