The MIG Welder will be responsible for the operation of welding equipment to fuse metal parts together. They will also be responsible for setting up the equipment and maintaining a safe work area. The MIG Welder will need to have experience in welding, as well as knowledge of safety procedures.

MIG Welder Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Operate welding machines to fuse metal segments together
  • Monitor the welding process to avoid overheating of metals or expansion of materials
  • Maintain equipment and tools in a safe and operable condition
  • Inspect completed welds to check their strength and appearance

Objectives

  • To operate welding equipment in order to weld metal parts together
  • To set up welding equipment and select the appropriate settings according to the type of metal being welded and the desired results
  • To interpret blueprints or other specifications in order to determine the best welding techniques to use
  • To guide and direct assistants who may be helping with the welding process
  • To monitor the welding process and make adjustments as necessary in order to ensure a high quality weld

MIG Welder Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • A minimum of two years welding experience is required.
  • Must be able to pass a welding test.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Welding certification is a plus.
