The Groundsman is responsible for the care and maintenance of all outdoor areas of the property, including the landscaping, gardens, and lawns. They work closely with the Head Gardener to ensure that all areas are kept in pristine condition. The Groundsman must be able to use a variety of tools and equipment, as well as have excellent knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
Groundsman Job Responsibilities
- Maintain the grounds of a property, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and clearing debris.
- Water plants and gardens as needed.
- Apply pesticides and herbicides to control weeds and pests.
- Repair any damage to sidewalks, driveways, or other paved areas.
- Install and maintain landscaping features such as trees, shrubs, and flowers beds
Objectives
- To maintain the grounds of a property in a clean, neat and orderly condition.
- To carry out all necessary tasks associated with the upkeep of the grounds, including but not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, watering, fertilizing and weed control.
- To ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and operated in a safe and efficient manner.
- To liaise with other members of staff as well as external contractors to ensure that all work is carried out to the required standard.
- To keep accurate records of all work carried out and materials used for future reference.
