Electrical Engineer Job Description template

Electrical Engineers are specialists that design and develop electrical systems and components. Electrical Engineers may work in everything from power generation and transmission, to telecommunications, computers, avionics, industrial, transportation and military applications. They are responsible for troubleshooting, designing, testing, and overseeing the manufacture of electrical technologies.

Electrical Engineer Responsibilities

  • Manage the electrical engineering function, including development, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Apply knowledge of electrical engineering principles to electrical control systems
  • Perform design, development, testing, installation, qualifying, and commissioning of electrical control equipment
  • Develop and review electrical specifications, design, and documentation
  • Design and develop SCADA systems and process control systems
  • Develop electrical drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Develop and test PLC programs
  • Develop and test motor control programs
  • Develop and test motor starting programs
  • Conduct technical training
  • Develop project schedules and budgets
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of New Jersey
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or 4+ years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems, Siemens, Rockwell Automation, and Allen Bradley

 

Objectives

  • Organize, design, and implement electrical systems to include:
  • Understanding of electrical wiring, components and systems
  • Planning for installation, maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of network communications and telecommunications
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosis
  • Follow safety procedures and practices
  • Operate machinery such as computer numerical control (CNC)
  • Attend regular safety meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Electrical Engineer Skills Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 3+ years of work experience with electrical engineering
  • Experience with electrical design, troubleshooting, planning and installation of electrical systems
  • Ability to analyze and modify electrical designs
  • Ability to provide direct client support to engineering staff
  • Ability to build relationships with customers
