The Electrical Drafter is responsible for creating electrical drawings and schematics based on input from engineers. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop models and plans, and must be able to understand complex electrical systems. The role also includes some site visits to gather data and take measurements. Electrical Drafter Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Use computeraided drafting (CAD) equipment and software to produce electrical drawings
  • Coordinate with other drafters, engineers, and technicians to ensure that the electrical drawings are accurate and meet all relevant standards
  • Perform quality control checks on own work and the work of others to ensure accuracy
  • Revise drawings as necessary based on feedback or changes in project requirements

Electrical Drafter Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • Education:
  • Most employers prefer to hire electrical drafters who have completed some college coursework or have an associate's degree in drafting or a related field. Many community colleges offer programs in drafting, and some fouryear colleges and universities also offer bachelor's degrees in this field. Some employers may require electrical drafters to be certified by the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA).
