Arbitrator Job Description Template

An arbitrator is a person who hears and decides disputes between two parties. An arbitrator is similar to a judge in that they preside over cases and render decisions; however, an arbitrator is not a part of the court system. Instead, both parties must agree to use arbitration, and they can select their own arbitrator or have one assigned to them. Once selected, an arbitrator has the authority to hear testimony, review evidence, and make a decision based on the information presented.

Arbitrator Job Responsibilities

Arbitrator Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • The skills and qualifications needed for the role of Arbitrator are:
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in commercial law, preferably with a focus on international arbitration.
  • A good working knowledge of the rules and procedures of international arbitration, as well as the substantive law relevant to the disputes being arbitrated.
  • Excellent research, writing and advocacy skills.
  • The ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English is essential; fluency in another language is an advantage.
