A plumbing apprentice is someone who is learning the trade of plumbing under the supervision of a licensed plumber. As an apprentice, you will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the installation and repair of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing equipment; cleaning up after each job; and keeping the work area clean and organized. You must be able to follow instructions carefully and ask questions when you are unsure of something. A successful apprentice will have good problem-solving skills, manual dexterity, physical stamina, and be able to work well with others.
Apprentice Plumber Job Responsibilities
- Apprentice plumbers typically work under the supervision of a licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber.
- Duties may include assisting in the installation of pipe systems, fixtures, and plumbing equipment; performing roughin, assembly, and final installation tasks; soldering and brazing pipes; and cleaning up work areas.
- May also be responsible for reading blueprints or instructions from Journeyman Plumbers in order to complete assigned tasks.
- As apprentices gain experience, they may be entrusted with more complex tasks such as installing gas lines or working with sewer systems.
