The Communications Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to the communications team. This includes but is not limited to tasks such as drafting correspondence, scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and preparing reports. The Communications Assistant will also be responsible for assisting with special projects as needed.

Communications Assistant Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the organization's website.
  • Write and distribute press releases to media outlets.
  • Research, write, and edit content for the organization's newsletter.
  • Draft speeches and talking points for executive staff members.
  • Plan and execute promotional campaigns for events and programs.
  • Manage social media accounts, including creating original content, responding to comments and questions, monitoring activity, and reporting results to stakeholders.
  • Serve as liaison between the organization and external vendors, such as printers, graphic designers, etc.

  • To develop and implement effective communication strategies that support the organization's goals and objectives.
  • To manage the organization's internal and external communications, including media relations, public relations, marketing communications, and employee communications.
  • To develop and execute communication plans and programs that raise awareness of the organization and its products, services, and brand.
  • To manage the development and distribution of highquality written materials such as press releases, news stories, speeches, presentations, brochures, fact sheets, website content, and social media content.
  • To cultivate relationships with members of the media and pitch story ideas that promote positive coverage of the organization.
  • To serve as a liaison between the organization and its various stakeholders, including customers, employees, shareholders/investors, partners/vendors, government officials/regulators, etc., to ensure timely exchange of information and resolution of issues/concerns.

Communications Assistant Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • There are many skills and qualifications that could be useful for a communications assistant, but some of the most important ones include excellent writing and editing skills, strong interpersonal skills, and experience with various communication platforms and software. A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, or a related field is also often required.
