A Dietary Aide is a person who assists certified nutritional therapists and other medical personnel in planning meals, preparing foods, and dispensing of nutritional supplements to clients. Dietary Aides also assist clients in following dietary guidelines and making lifestyle changes through dietary and exercise recommendations.

Dietary Aide Responsibilities

  • Assist the dietary coordinator in meal preparation, duties include: supervising kitchen staff, preparing meals, washing dishes, and sanitizing work areas
  • Prepare and serve meals according to special dietary needs of the guests, supervise kitchen staff, and assist the dietary coordinator with food service and nutritional monitoring
  • Assist the dietary coordinator with daily meal preparation, bulk food preparation, and meal storage
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, tableware, and work areas, and maintain kitchen supplies
  • Follow the specific dietary and nutritional regimens, practices, and regulations for the guests’ medical dietary needs
  • Maintain office cleanliness, including filing, sorting, and retrieving documents
  • Assist in preventative maintenance and minor repair of equipment

 

Objectives

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living
  • Provide gentle assistance to patients
  • Ensure that patients eating habits are in accordance with their doctor's orders
  • Assist patients with eating, bathing, toileting, etc.
  • Feed patients
  • Provide housekeeping services
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Dietary Aide Skills Needed

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in the absence of supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
